Highway 90 west of O’Kean will be closed on October 1 for important pipe culvert replacement work

Randolph County, Arkansas – Highway 90 west of O’Kean will be closed temporarily on Wednesday, October 1, to allow crews to replace a pipe culvert near Dean Road. The closure, originally delayed due to weather, is now scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the road remaining open to local traffic only on either side of the construction area.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation confirmed that the closure will take place between Highway 67 and Highway 34. Motorists traveling through this section are advised to plan ahead and use designated detour routes to avoid delays.

Eastbound travelers can detour by taking Highway 90 to Highway 67 north, then Highway 304 east, followed by Highway 231 south, and finally reconnecting with Highway 90. Westbound traffic can use Highway 90 to Highway 231 north, then Highway 304 west, followed by Highway 67 south to return to Highway 90. Barricades, barrels, and signage will guide drivers safely through the detours.

“Weather permitting, our crews will work throughout the day to replace the culvert efficiently and safely,” said an Arkansas Department of Transportation spokesperson. “We appreciate the public’s patience as we complete this essential maintenance to ensure the safety and reliability of Highway 90.”

Residents in the area are reminded to follow posted traffic signs and drive cautiously near the construction zone. Local traffic will still have access to properties on either side of the closure, but delays are expected.
