Conway, Arkansas – A significant road reconstruction project is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 5, on Nutters Chapel Road, marking the start of long-anticipated improvements aimed at enhancing both safety and traffic flow in the area.
According to city officials, Nutters Chapel Road will be closed to thru traffic between TJ Drive and Salem Road throughout the duration of the project. However, residents and property owners along the route will still be able to access their driveways during construction. Crews will be working in phases to ensure safety while maintaining some level of convenience for those who live along the corridor.
The scope of the reconstruction includes more than just new pavement. Two 11-foot-wide travel lanes will be constructed, giving vehicles more space for smoother passage. In addition, the plan features the installation of curbs and gutters, dedicated bike lanes, and upgraded stormwater drainage systems, which are expected to help mitigate future flooding concerns in the area. To improve visibility and pedestrian safety, additional street lighting will also be installed.
“This reconstruction will provide long-term benefits for everyone who uses Nutters Chapel Road, from drivers to cyclists,” said a city project manager involved in the development. “We understand that construction can be inconvenient, but these upgrades are essential to the growth and functionality of our infrastructure.”
The estimated completion time is approximately 9 to 10 months, meaning the project could wrap up by early 2026, weather and unforeseen delays permitting. Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time when navigating near the construction zone.
