Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin visits Little Rock and helps celebrate over $70,000 in scholarships awarded to deserving young men during an inspiring event

Little Rock, Arkansas – The 52nd annual Delta Presents Scholarship Program, hosted by the Little Rock Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., brought together the local community for a night of celebration, inspiration, and empowerment. This year, the event, held at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre in Downtown Little Rock, reached new heights, with over $70,000 in scholarships awarded to 15 deserving young men.

These scholars, recognized for their academic achievements, leadership potential, and commitment to their communities, shared their passions, personal inspirations, and guiding philosophies. Among the special guests was Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who made the trip from New York to attend the event. Hamlin, whose life was dramatically impacted by a cardiac arrest incident during an NFL game in January 2023, spoke candidly with the honorees. His recovery and return to football captured the hearts of millions, and his story of resilience and perseverance continues to inspire others.

During his remarks, Hamlin offered words of encouragement to the young men, reminding them that adversity does not define who they are or what they can achieve. “To be here and to be able to answer questions for young men who are on the right track to be able to be the difference makers of our world, I think it’s truly important and something I take pride in,” Hamlin said. His presence added an extra layer of inspiration to an already uplifting event, as he encouraged the scholars to push through challenges and continue striving for greatness.

The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s Little Rock chapter has a long history of supporting education and youth development. Since its founding, the chapter has awarded over a million dollars in scholarships to more than 2,500 honorees. This annual event is one of the sorority’s signature initiatives, aimed at empowering young men to reach their full potential.

The scholarships, which are presented to local students, are designed to help support their educational journeys, whether they plan to attend college, pursue vocational training, or further their careers in other fields. The event has grown over the years, attracting increasing support from the community and helping to raise awareness of the importance of investing in the next generation of leaders.

As the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority continues to foster academic excellence, mentorship, and service, the future looks brighter for these scholarship recipients, who are ready to take on the world.

This year’s event was a reminder of the power of support and the impact of giving back. With over $70,000 in scholarships awarded and a celebrated community leader like Damar Hamlin offering words of inspiration, the Little Rock Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to shaping the future for the better.
