Little Rock, Arkansas – On a day filled with reflection and respect, veterans and members of the Central Arkansas community gathered in Little Rock to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the start of the Korean War. The ceremony brought together those who served, families of fallen soldiers, and local officials who came to pay tribute to the Arkansans who fought in one of the most challenging conflicts in American military history.
The day’s observance began with a solemn remembrance ceremony held at the MacArthur Military Museum, a fitting location filled with echoes of Arkansas’s deep military heritage. Attendees listened to speakers share the historical significance of the war and the stories of those who made sacrifices in service to their country.
Following the ceremony, a wreath was carefully laid at the Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial—a symbolic gesture honoring the lives lost and the enduring impact of their service. The memorial stands as a permanent reminder of the 6,300 Arkansans who served in the Korean War, including the 461 who were killed in action.
“Today, we gather to remember the bravery and dedication of the men and women who fought in Korea,” one speaker said during the event. “Their legacy lives on through our gratitude and our commitment to never forget their sacrifice.”
On June 25, 1950, North Korean troops crossed the 38th parallel and launched a full-scale invasion into South Korea, beginning a brutal three-year conflict. While the war is often called “The Forgotten War,” events like this in Little Rock aim to keep the memories alive and honor those who fought.
Many of the veterans in attendance were visibly moved, standing side by side as they remembered fallen comrades and the hardships of battle. Some shared stories from their time in Korea, while others quietly reflected on the friends they lost.

The 75th anniversary not only served as a day of remembrance but also as a reminder of the continued responsibility to honor and support veterans of all wars. In Little Rock, that commitment was on full display as the community came together in unity and gratitude.
