North Little Rock, Arkansas – North Little Rock police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old at a local gas station earlier this week.
Police identified the suspect as Kendrick Givens Jr., who was taken into custody around 11 p.m. Monday at a home on Sycamore Street in North Little Rock. Authorities said Givens is facing a capital murder charge in the death of Braxton Ratliff.
The investigation began Sunday, Sept. 6, after officers were called to a Circle K gas station on Pike Avenue. When police arrived, they said they found Ratliff inside the store suffering from a gunshot wound. Ratliff was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not detailed in the information released by police. Authorities have not provided additional details about what led to the shooting or described a possible motive.

The arrest came roughly a day after the shooting. Police located Givens at a residence on Sycamore Street and took him into custody Monday night.
Following his arrest, Givens was booked into the Pulaski County Regional Detention Center. Police said he is being held without bond while the case moves forward through the court system.
Givens is scheduled to appear in North Little Rock District Court at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9. The court appearance is expected to mark the next step in the criminal case stemming from Ratliff’s death.
The shooting has brought a quick response from North Little Rock authorities, who moved from investigating the deadly incident Sunday to making an arrest Monday night. The case remains tied to the death of Ratliff, whose life was cut short inside the Pike Avenue gas station.
As the legal process begins, Givens faces the capital murder charge in connection with the killing. The allegations against him will now proceed through the court system, where the case will receive further consideration.
