Saline County, Arkansas – A major act of vandalism at a construction site in Saline County has prompted a call for public help and a sizable cash reward.
James A. Rogers Excavating, the company overseeing work on the Southwest Trail, is offering a $12,500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for damaging the site. County officials reported that the vandalism occurred sometime between May 23 and May 25.
The damage left behind is not minor—it’s estimated to exceed $700,000. Officials have not yet detailed what exactly was damaged, but sources indicate that heavy machinery and critical infrastructure at the site may have been affected.
“This is a significant blow to a project that’s meant to benefit the community,” one local official said. “Whoever did this not only caused property damage, they delayed progress on something that will bring long-term value to our county.”
The Southwest Trail is a planned 60-mile multi-use path connecting Little Rock to Hot Springs. Once completed, it’s expected to become a popular destination for cyclists, runners, and outdoor enthusiasts, boosting tourism and local business in the region. Construction has been underway in phases, with Saline County hosting several active segments.
Law enforcement is now asking the public to come forward with any tips that could help solve the case. The Saline County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and urges anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the construction zone during the May 23–25 window to speak up.
“If you know something, say something. We want to bring those responsible to justice,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson said.
Tips can be reported directly to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office by calling 501-303-5609.
Officials hope the $12,500 reward will encourage people to come forward quickly, so construction can continue without further setbacks. For now, work at the site remains partially on hold as the investigation moves forward.
