Jonesboro, Arkansas – Downtown Jonesboro is set to turn into a gathering spot for soccer fans on Monday night as Main Street will be closed to make way for a free FIFA World Cup viewing party featuring Team USA’s match against Belgium.

The event, organized as part of the Downtown Jonesboro Alliance’s “Match on Main,” will transform a section of the city into an open-air fan zone where residents can come together to watch the game on a big screen and enjoy the atmosphere of international soccer.

Main Street will be closed between Huntington Avenue and Cate Avenue, with restrictions in place from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on the day of the event. City officials are advising drivers to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and allow extra time when traveling through the downtown area during the closure period.

The match itself is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and fans are encouraged to arrive early to find a good viewing spot. Organizers are inviting attendees to bring lawn chairs and settle in for the game as Team USA faces Belgium in what is expected to be a highly watched international contest.

The free public viewing party is designed to bring the community together and create a shared experience for sports fans in the heart of downtown Jonesboro. Events like this have become increasingly popular in cities looking to activate public spaces and encourage local engagement.

While the focus of the night will be the soccer match, officials say the temporary street closure is necessary to ensure safety for pedestrians and allow space for the viewing setup and crowd movement.

Local businesses in the downtown area are also expected to benefit from the increased foot traffic as fans arrive before and after the match. Organizers hope the event will draw both dedicated soccer supporters and casual viewers looking for a unique way to spend the evening.

As kickoff approaches, anticipation is building among fans eager to watch Team USA compete in a high-profile match. The combination of live sports, a communal setting, and a summer evening atmosphere is expected to create a lively scene in downtown Jonesboro.

Once the event concludes, Main Street is scheduled to reopen to normal traffic after 10:30 p.m., allowing the city to return to regular operations overnight.

For now, officials are simply encouraging residents to come out, enjoy the game, and take part in what is expected to be a memorable night for the community.
