Closure scheduled on Highway 67/7 in Arkadelphia between Henderson Street and Hickory Street

Arkadelphia, Arkansas – Drivers traveling through Arkadelphia should plan ahead this weekend as a key section of Highway 67/7 is scheduled to close for most of Sunday while crews carry out infrastructure work.

The closure will affect Highway 67/7 between Henderson Street and Hickory Street. It is set to begin at 6 a.m. on Sunday, June 28, and will remain in place until 6 p.m., weather permitting. Officials say the timing has been planned to allow crews to complete work within a single day, minimizing longer disruptions to traffic in the area.

According to transportation officials, the closure is necessary so crews can replace a drainage structure beneath the roadway. The work is part of ongoing maintenance efforts aimed at improving road conditions and managing water flow under the highway, especially during heavy rain events.

While the road will be fully closed through the construction zone, Highway 67/7 will remain open to local traffic on either side of the closure. This means residents and businesses located within the affected stretch will still be able to access nearby sections of the highway, though through travel will not be possible.

To guide motorists around the closure, a signed detour route will be in place throughout the day. Drivers heading toward the north side of the closure will be directed to travel south on Highway 67/7 to Highway 8 (Pine Street), then west to Interstate 30, and finally east on I-30 back to Highway 67/7.

For those trying to reach the south side, the detour will send traffic north on Highway 67/7 to I-30, then west along the interstate to Highway 8 (Pine Street), and finally east on Highway 8 back to Highway 67/7.

Officials say the detour routes are designed to keep traffic moving while ensuring safety for both drivers and construction crews working in the area. Signs will be posted along the routes to help guide motorists through the changes.

In addition to detour signage, drivers can expect to see digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and other warning signs placed in advance of the closure zone. These measures are intended to provide clear notice and reduce confusion as vehicles approach the work area.

Transportation officials are urging drivers to remain alert while traveling near construction zones, even outside the closed section. Motorists are encouraged to watch for workers and equipment entering or exiting the roadway, obey posted speed limits, and allow extra time for travel during the closure period.

Officials also note that conditions are weather dependent, meaning the schedule could shift if severe weather interferes with planned work. Travelers are advised to check for updates before heading out.

Additional travel information and real-time updates can be found through IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov, where drivers can view road conditions and plan alternate routes if needed.
