Jefferson County, Arkansas – Investigators with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office have made a significant arrest following an investigation into a criminal impersonation case involving the unlawful seizure of a firearm. On August 7, 2025, authorities began looking into allegations that a man identifying himself falsely as a sheriff’s office employee approached a citizen while they were walking and confiscated a firearm under false pretenses.
The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Torrence Rogers, allegedly told the victim that the magazine in their firearm was illegal to possess and then took the weapon from them. After several days of investigation, officers arrested Rogers on August 11, charging him with Criminal Impersonation in the First Degree, along with additional charges related to the incident.
Following the arrest, investigators conducted a thorough search of Rogers’ residence. During the search, they seized multiple items believed to be connected to the ongoing investigation. Based on these items, authorities suspect Rogers may have committed similar offenses on other occasions, prompting a broader search for additional victims.
In an effort to uncover more potential cases, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is reaching out to the public. They encourage anyone who has been approached by Rogers and surrendered property under the impression that he was a law enforcement officer to come forward. The office hopes that more victims will come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation and help bring clarity to the full scope of Rogers’ actions.
Investigator Kirsten Pennington is leading the case and is available to speak with anyone who may have relevant information.
