President Trump announces major disaster declaration for Arkansas as part of ongoing federal assistance to support recovery efforts from severe storms in April

Little Rock, Arkansas – On Wednesday, President Donald J. Trump took action to assist Arkansans recovering from the severe storms and flooding that struck the state on April 2, 2025. In response to a request from Governor Sarah Sanders, the President declared a Major Disaster in Arkansas, opening the door for critical federal assistance for both individuals and local governments.

Governor Sanders expressed gratitude for the federal support, emphasizing the importance of timely disaster recovery. “President Trump stands with Arkansas. As we recover from a long series of severe weather events, our state is incredibly thankful for President Trump’s leadership and work to deliver aid to storm-impacted communities,” she said. Sanders added that she has been in regular communication with the Trump Administration and FEMA Secretary Kristi Noem, focusing on reform efforts aimed at improving disaster response and efficiency.

With the Major Disaster Declaration now in place, Arkansans who were directly affected by the April storms will be eligible for Individual Assistance. This funding will help people recover their losses, offering financial support for housing, personal property, and other immediate needs. In addition, Public Assistance will be extended to local governments and counties, providing resources to cover expenses incurred during the recovery process, including infrastructure repairs and public safety operations.

This federal aid comes at a critical time for the state, which has faced a prolonged period of severe weather. Many residents have suffered property damage, displacement, and significant disruptions to daily life. The Major Disaster Declaration ensures that Arkansas can tap into much-needed resources to rebuild and recover more swiftly.

Governor Sanders has expressed her commitment to working closely with federal officials to ensure that recovery efforts are both efficient and cost-effective. “I have had continued conversations with the Trump Administration and Secretary Noem about their plans to reform FEMA and look forward to working with them to save money and get assistance directly in the hands of disaster victims,” Sanders added.

As recovery efforts continue, Arkansas residents can expect both state and federal teams to work together to provide much-needed relief. President Trump’s declaration marks an important step in addressing the long-term impacts of the storm and ensuring that resources are available to those most in need.
