Sheriff presents Citizens Meritorious Service Resolution to two brave young brothers for aiding in critical search effort

Jefferson County, Arkansas – In a heartfelt ceremony at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. presented a Resolution of Citizens Meritorious Service to two young brothers, Landon and Kamdon McDaniel, for their remarkable bravery during a recent search and rescue mission.

The award was given in recognition of the role the McDaniel brothers played in the safe recovery of William McElvain, a missing individual whose disappearance had prompted an urgent search by law enforcement. On May 18, while accompanying their father Clyde McDaniel, Landon and Kamdon voluntarily joined the search and ultimately located McElvain deep within a wooded area, hidden among dense brush.

Their swift action and decision to notify nearby deputies proved to be critical. Authorities say that without their involvement, the search may have taken far longer — potentially putting McElvain’s life at greater risk.

“We are proud of Landon and Kamdon and are thankful for their courageous efforts and their compassion for others which were evident in their actions on May 18, 2025. They both are an excellent example of citizen service at its finest,” said Sheriff Woods during the presentation, where several family members of the young heroes were present.

Though still young, Landon and Kamdon exemplified calm under pressure and a deep sense of civic responsibility. Their quick thinking and selflessness captured the admiration of deputies and community members alike.

The sheriff emphasized how their voluntary participation made a genuine difference. “It cannot be overstated how their efforts aided in Mister McElvain’s rescue,” he noted, underscoring the importance of everyday citizens playing a role in public safety.

The resolution ceremony served not only as recognition but as a reminder of how impactful community involvement can be. Sheriff Woods said he hopes their example will inspire others, especially youth, to act with courage and compassion when faced with a call to help.

As the McDaniel family stood proudly at the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, it was clear that this honor meant more than words. It marked a moment when ordinary citizens—two young boys with a will to help—became true local heroes.
