Conway, Arkansas – Two members of the Conway Public School District Board announced their resignation on Monday, marking a notable leadership change for the district’s governing body.
Board President Sheila Franklin and Zone 4 Representative Trip Leach both submitted formal letters confirming their departure, ending their current terms early. The announcements were made public in Conway, Arkansas, and quickly drew attention within the school community.
Franklin’s resignation letter carried a tone of reflection and appreciation for her time serving on the board. She used her message to recognize district leadership and the broader school community for their work over the past years.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to each of you, as well as to our outstanding students, parents, administrators, educators, and staff,” she said. “Your dedication and commitment continue to strengthen both our district and our community, and it has been an honor to serve alongside you.”
In her letter, Franklin also specifically thanked Superintendent Jason Black, members of his leadership team, and district consultant Dr. Jeff Standridge for their collaboration during her tenure.
She extended personal gratitude as well, acknowledging the support system that stood behind her during her time on the board.
“To my husband, family, friends, and supporters, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering encouragement and support throughout my service,” Franklin continued. “Above all, I give thanks to my Lord and Savior for sustaining, guiding, and strengthening me during my three-year tenure as a board member.”
Her departure closes a three-year period of service on the school board, during which she played a role in district-level decisions affecting students, staff, and school operations across Conway.
Shortly after Franklin’s announcement, Trip Leach also confirmed his resignation from the Zone 4 seat. In his letter, Leach explained that his decision was driven by personal priorities, including family responsibilities and health concerns.
“At this time, I believe this important role deserves someone who can give it their full attention and energy,” Leach said. “Due to the need to focus more fully on my family and personal health, I have made the difficult decision to step away from my position on the Board.”
Leach’s statement emphasized the demanding nature of school board service and the importance of ensuring that leadership positions are held by individuals able to dedicate sufficient time and focus.
The simultaneous departure of both Franklin and Leach leaves two vacancies on the Conway Public School Board at a time when school districts across Arkansas continue to navigate a range of operational and educational priorities, including staffing, budgeting, and long-term planning.
No immediate timeline was announced for filling the open seats, and district officials have not yet outlined the process for selecting replacements. Typically, such vacancies are addressed through appointments or special elections depending on district policy and state requirements.
The resignations come as the district continues its ongoing work with Superintendent Jason Black and administrative leaders on academic programs, student services, and community engagement initiatives.
While both outgoing members expressed different personal reasons for stepping down, their messages shared a consistent theme of gratitude toward colleagues, educators, and families within the district.
As the Conway Public School District moves forward, attention is expected to turn toward maintaining continuity on the board and ensuring that upcoming decisions remain aligned with district goals and student needs.
For now, the resignations mark a significant shift in leadership, closing one chapter of service while opening questions about how the board will be reshaped in the months ahead.
