Benton, Arkansas – The city of Benton is stepping into a new era of firefighter training with the unveiling of a dedicated 2,300-square-foot facility designed for live burns and hands-on emergency drills, marking a long-awaited milestone for local public safety leaders.

City officials and the Benton Fire Department have worked for years to bring a specialized training site into the community, aiming to reduce the need for firefighters to travel outside the area for advanced instruction. That goal has now become reality, giving crews a controlled environment where they can practice real-life fire scenarios without leaving Central Arkansas.

The new facility is designed to simulate a variety of emergency situations, allowing firefighters to train in conditions that closely mirror what they may face in actual incidents. Live burn exercises, tactical drills, and scenario-based training will now be conducted on-site, offering a more consistent and accessible training schedule for personnel.

For Benton Fire Chief Russell Evans, the impact of the new facility is both practical and immediate. He emphasized how staying local for training will strengthen readiness and improve service to the community.

“This keeps our fire department here local. It keeps us from having to farm them out to other states and things like that for their training so being able to stay right here in Central Arkansas and Benton is going to give them ability to better serve our citizens,” said Russell Evans.

Previously, firefighters from Benton had to travel to other locations to access similar live-fire training environments. That process often required additional time, coordination, and resources, which city leaders say the new facility will now eliminate.

With the new site in place, firefighters will be able to complete more frequent training sessions, refine response techniques, and maintain readiness for a wide range of emergency situations. Officials believe this will directly translate into faster and more effective responses when real emergencies occur in the community.

City leaders also see the facility as an investment in the long-term safety of Benton, a city that continues to grow in population and development. As residential neighborhoods expand and commercial activity increases, emergency response demands are expected to rise as well.

The 2,300-square-foot structure is not just a training space, but a strategic addition to the city’s broader public safety infrastructure. Leaders say it reflects a commitment to ensuring that first responders have access to modern tools and realistic training environments without leaving the city limits.

Officials added that keeping training local also helps improve firefighter availability, since crews no longer need to spend extended periods away from Benton for certification exercises or specialized instruction.

Beyond technical benefits, the facility is also expected to strengthen teamwork and coordination among fire personnel. Regular joint training exercises conducted in the same environment are likely to improve communication and consistency during real-world emergencies.

City leaders described the project as a major step forward in supporting first responders and ensuring they are fully prepared to protect residents across Benton and surrounding areas.

As the facility becomes fully operational, Benton Fire Department crews are expected to begin using it immediately for structured training programs. Officials say the investment will pay off over time by improving response times, enhancing skills, and ultimately increasing public safety throughout the community.
