Conway, Arkansas – A decade has passed since a heartbreaking accident took the life of 12-year-old Raphael Skinner Jr. His family remains dedicated to preserving his legacy and commemorating the lives he touched through tissue donation.
In May 2012, Marquisha Harris and her children encountered a flat tire while driving on Interstate 630, which resulted in the steering wheel locking up.
“It made us collide with the guard rail of the bridge,” stated Raven Brown, Harris’s daughter, who was also present in the vehicle.
Brown reflected on the force that led to their Tahoe overturning.
“According to Brown, his oldest brother, Raphael, was propelled through the back windshield.”
Raphael was the sole family member who did not make it through the crash.
“Harris described him as a remarkable, candid, and humorous young boy.” He advocated for individuals. He had a deep affection for his siblings and his beloved Big Momma.
Raphael’s legacy of kindness endures, even after his passing.
His organs were donated, making a significant impact by saving and enhancing the lives of numerous individuals.
“My perspective on life has truly shifted, especially after seeing my brother help six different people. It touched my heart, and I realize that as I grow older, I want to follow that same path,” Brown expressed.
By 2024, Raphael’s donated heart valves have saved two lives, while his contributions of bone and soft tissue have benefited as many as 52 individuals.
A girl named Abigail conveyed her appreciation in a letter addressed to Raphael’s family.
Thank you for choosing to have your child assist others; it truly means a lot. “Whenever I step onto the court, be it for volleyball, basketball, or tennis, I reflect on the individual who supported me in getting back on my feet,” Abigail expressed.
On Friday, the family marked what would have been Raphael’s 23rd birthday by releasing balloons and reflecting on the joyful moments they experienced together.
They are dedicated to preserving Raphael’s legacy.
Raphael’s family collaborates with ARORA, an organization that facilitates organ and tissue transplants.
ARORA members gathered to honor a life, standing by the family and providing support during this challenging time.
