Temporary road closure scheduled on Highway 228 for critical pipe culvert replacement on July 16th

Lawrence County, Arkansas – A temporary road closure is set to affect Highway 228 west of Sedgwick on Wednesday, July 16, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., as crews work to replace a pipe culvert. The closure, which will impact traffic between Highway 63 and Highway 91, is part of ongoing maintenance efforts to improve the highway infrastructure.

During this time, Highway 228 will be closed to through traffic, but local access will still be permitted. Drivers who typically use this route will need to adjust their travel plans as alternative routes are in place. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) advises motorists to plan ahead for potential delays and to follow the designated detours.

For eastbound traffic, a detour route will lead drivers north on Highway 63 to Highway 91 south, where they can rejoin Highway 228. Alternatively, drivers can take Highway 63 south to Highway 230 west and then head north on Highway 91 to return to Highway 228. On the west side of the closure, the detour is available in the opposite direction.

Officials encourage drivers to remain cautious and adhere to detour signs to help minimize congestion and ensure safety while crews work on the culvert replacement. “We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but this maintenance is essential for maintaining the long-term safety and functionality of the road,” said a representative from ARDOT.

Residents and travelers are urged to plan their trips accordingly and seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
