Temporary full closure and lane restrictions scheduled on Highway 25 across Greers Ferry Dam for maintenance and repair work

Arkansas – A major traffic disruption is coming to the Greers Ferry area as transportation and maintenance crews prepare for a temporary but significant closure on Highway 25 across Greers Ferry Dam.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that all lanes of Highway 25 will be fully closed across the dam from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. Officials say the closure is necessary to allow crews to complete essential repair work and ongoing maintenance on the structure.

Once the full shutdown ends later that day, the roadway will not return to normal operation. Instead, it will reopen with a single lane in use around the clock starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, and continuing through 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. Drivers should expect alternating traffic flow and potential delays throughout the week.

Authorities emphasized that the schedule is weather permitting, meaning any severe or unexpected conditions could affect the timeline of work.

The maintenance effort has been coordinated in advance with local emergency management officials and law enforcement agencies to ensure safety and minimize disruption as much as possible. Still, officials are warning that travelers in the area should prepare for detours and longer travel times.

For drivers needing to reach destinations north of the closure, a detour route has been established. Traffic will be redirected from Highway 25 south near Pearson to Highway 16 west toward Whispering Springs, then onto Highway 92 east through Drasco before reconnecting with Highway 25.

Similarly, travelers heading to locations south of the dam will be required to reverse the route. That detour will guide vehicles north through Drasco, west on Highway 92 toward Whispering Springs, south on Highway 16 through Pearson, and back onto Highway 25.

Officials are encouraging drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when traveling through the region during the closure and single-lane operation period. The dam area is a key connector route, meaning even small delays could affect regional traffic flow.

Residents and commuters are also being urged to stay updated on road conditions before traveling. The latest information can be found through IDriveArkansas.com, which provides real-time updates on traffic and road closures across the state.

For additional details or questions about the project, the public can contact the Heber Springs USACE Project Office at (501) 362-2416 or visit the official website at http://www.swl.usace.army.mil/.

While the closure may cause short-term inconvenience, officials say the maintenance work is necessary to ensure long-term safety and reliability of the highway crossing over Greers Ferry Dam.
