Sheriff’s deputies respond to rural Jefferson County aircraft crash involving a crop duster

Jefferson County, Arkansas – A tragic aircraft crash claimed the life of a crop duster pilot in the Swan Lake area of Jefferson County on the evening of June 6, 2025. Authorities responded swiftly to the scene following a distress call reporting the incident.

At approximately 6:18 p.m., the Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association (MECA) received a 911 call stating that an agricultural aircraft had gone down in a rural part of the county. The caller also reported that the pilot appeared to be deceased. Emergency responders, including deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police, local ambulance services, and fire rescue units, were immediately dispatched to the crash site.

Upon arrival, law enforcement and rescue personnel located the wreckage of the single-seat aircraft and confirmed the death of the pilot. The aircraft involved was identified as a crop duster, commonly used for aerial application in agricultural fields. Officials have confirmed that no other individuals were onboard the aircraft at the time of the crash. Additionally, there were no injuries reported on the ground.

The identity of the deceased pilot has not been released as of Friday evening. “The pilot’s identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin,” authorities said in a statement.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and will take over the investigation to determine the cause of the crash. This includes examining the wreckage, reviewing flight records, and interviewing any potential witnesses who may have seen or heard the aircraft before the incident.

The crash site, which sits in a sparsely populated agricultural area near Swan Lake, has been secured while investigators begin the process of piecing together the moments leading up to the crash. At this time, no foul play is suspected, and weather conditions at the time of the incident have not been identified as a contributing factor.

Further details will be released as the FAA continues its inquiry. Local authorities have asked residents to avoid the area to ensure a safe and thorough investigation.
