President Trump grants federal assistance to Arkansas amidst ongoing flooding and tornado damage

Little Rock, Arkansas – In the face of severe storms, tornadoes, and extensive flooding across the state, President Donald Trump has approved Arkansas’s request for emergency assistance. The approval comes after Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders reached out for federal support to help the state respond to the ongoing disaster that began on April 2, 2025, and continues to threaten communities. This decision grants the state access to crucial resources to help mitigate the impact of the catastrophic flooding.

Governor Sanders expressed deep appreciation for President Trump’s quick action, noting the critical need for immediate assistance as the state grapples with rapidly rising water levels in several of Arkansas’ major rivers. “I’m so thankful to President Trump for always jumping into quick action and ensuring the American people are safe and taken care of,” Governor Sanders said in a statement. “We appreciate his administration’s proactive response to this storm. With these additional federal resources, Arkansas will have the capacity to respond to this flooding more effectively, shore up property and roadways, and save lives.”

The flooding in Arkansas is particularly concerning as it affects a number of major rivers, including the Buffalo River, Spring River, Little Red River, Cache River, Black River, and many others. Each of these rivers is experiencing dangerously high water levels, exacerbated by intense rainfall that began with the storms earlier this week. The Mississippi River, which borders much of the state, is also of significant concern due to its swollen waters, which are threatening surrounding areas.

In her formal request, Governor Sanders highlighted the growing risks to both property and lives, emphasizing the urgent need for federal support. In response, President Trump authorized the deployment of federal resources, including Category B assistance, which is specifically aimed at providing direct federal assistance for the state’s emergency response efforts. This assistance will help Arkansas deploy resources to prevent further damage, assist local communities, and provide much-needed relief to the residents who have already been impacted by the flooding.

The federal aid will not only allow for more effective flood control and disaster management, but it will also help Arkansas bolster its emergency services, including search and rescue operations. Local authorities are working around the clock to evacuate areas at risk and ensure that residents are safe.

Governor Sanders also stressed the importance of continued cooperation between state, local, and federal agencies to effectively address the situation. The additional resources will be crucial in mitigating the damage caused by the ongoing storms and floodwaters, particularly in the hardest-hit areas.

With the storm’s impact still ongoing, Arkansas residents are urged to stay informed and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. Emergency responders are working tirelessly to assist those affected by the flooding, and the federal aid now available will provide essential support as recovery efforts begin in earnest.

As the state braces for additional rain and the potential for further flooding, the commitment of both state and federal officials to the safety of Arkansas residents remains unwavering. With President Trump’s approval of the emergency declaration, Arkansas is now better equipped to handle the immediate threats posed by the ongoing storm system and its aftermath.
