Pope County Sheriff’s Office is looking into a disturbing shooting case where a 13-year-old suspect allegedly shot a 56-year-old woman before fleeing the scene

Pope County, Arkansas – A 13-year-old has been taken into custody following a non-fatal shooting that occurred early in the morning on March 7, 2025. The Pope County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident, which involved the shooting of a 56-year-old woman.

According to a statement from Sheriff Shane Jones, deputies were called to the 1800 Block of Pollard Cemetery Road at 1:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman, who had not been named by authorities, with a single gunshot wound. Thankfully, she was alert and conscious when deputies found her at the scene. Investigators later determined that the shooter was a 13-year-old relative of the woman. Authorities confirmed that the young suspect had fled the scene but was located hours later on Boyd Road. As the investigation continues, no further details, including the gender or identity of the suspect, have been released due to the juvenile’s age.

Sheriff Jones’ statement emphasized the seriousness of the crime, with the 13-year-old now facing charges of attempted murder. Due to the involvement of a minor, certain details of the case are being withheld to comply with laws protecting juvenile information in such matters.

This incident has left the community shaken, as it is highly unusual for a young teen to be involved in such a violent act. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and additional details are expected as the case progresses. The sheriff’s office has not commented further on the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.

As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement officials are urging the public to allow the legal process to run its course and refrain from speculation regarding the case.
