Little Rock, Arkansas – A late evening apartment fire in Little Rock turned deadly on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and causing significant damage to a residential building, according to local officials.

The Little Rock Fire Department responded to the blaze at the Cottages Apartments, located near 36th Street and Shackleford Road, shortly before 7:30 p.m. Fire crews arrived to find heavy fire activity affecting a building that contains four separate units.

The structure sustained severe damage as firefighters worked to bring the flames under control. The intensity of the fire forced a rapid response, with crews focusing on preventing the spread to nearby buildings within the apartment complex.

Authorities later confirmed that one person died as a result of the fire. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim, and it remains unclear whether anyone else was injured in the incident.

At this stage, investigators have not determined what caused the fire. The origin remains under review as fire investigators continue to examine the scene and gather evidence from the damaged structure.

The uncertainty surrounding the cause has left residents of the complex and surrounding neighborhood waiting for answers. Officials have not indicated whether foul play is suspected, and no additional details have been released regarding possible contributing factors.

Emergency response teams also called in the American Red Cross to assist residents affected by the fire. Several individuals have been displaced due to the damage, and the organization is providing temporary support, including shelter and basic necessities, for those who were forced to leave their homes.

The Red Cross typically works alongside local authorities in situations like this, helping families recover in the immediate aftermath of residential fires while longer-term arrangements are made.

Neighbors reported a heavy emergency response presence in the area as firefighters worked through the evening to control the situation. The scene remained active for some time as crews ensured the fire was fully extinguished and checked for remaining hazards.

While the building suffered major structural damage, officials have not yet released information about its long-term condition or whether the units will be habitable again.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to release additional details once more information becomes available. For residents in the area, the incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly residential fires can escalate and cause tragic outcomes.

Officials have urged anyone with information related to the fire to come forward as they work to piece together what happened in the moments leading up to the blaze.
