Little Rock, Arkansas – Little Rock residents have another opportunity to help protect the environment and support city sustainability efforts this Saturday, June 7, during the city’s quarterly Little Rock Recycles Day event.
From 9 a.m. to noon, community members are encouraged to bring recyclable and reusable items to the east parking lot of the Little Rock Zoo, located at the intersection of Zoo Drive and South Monroe Street. The event is organized by the City of Little Rock’s Sustainability Office in partnership with Keep Little Rock Beautiful and the Little Rock Zoo.
This recurring community event gives locals a convenient and responsible way to dispose of a wide variety of items that don’t belong in the regular trash. Organizers say the goal is to reduce waste, promote reuse, and support the city’s long-term sustainability plans.

Residents will be able to drop off single-stream recycling items including plastic bottles and jugs, cardboard, paper, and aluminum or steel cans. Glass items will also be accepted, as will plastic bags and other soft plastics such as shrink wrap—materials that often end up in landfills due to limited curbside recycling options.
A special highlight of the event is the safe disposal of electronic waste. Accepted e-waste includes virtually anything with a power cord, with the exception of refrigerators and window air conditioners. This allows residents to get rid of old electronics like computers, monitors, microwaves, and printers in a way that keeps potentially hazardous materials out of landfills and waterways.
In addition, the event offers free document shredding for residents wanting to safely discard personal papers. Bicycles and gently used household items and textiles will also be collected—these items may be donated or repurposed to benefit local charities and reuse networks.
“Little Rock Recycles Day is an important part of our city’s effort to promote environmentally responsible habits and reduce unnecessary waste,” said organizers. “It’s a simple but powerful way for residents to get involved in keeping our community clean and green.”
The quarterly event has become a popular way for individuals and families to contribute to environmental efforts while clearing out clutter at home. The collaborative nature of the event—partnering a city agency with a local nonprofit and a beloved community attraction like the zoo—also helps raise awareness of recycling resources available in Little Rock.
Those planning to participate are encouraged to arrive early to avoid traffic delays and to make sorting items ahead of time easier for volunteers. No registration is required, and there are no fees to drop off accepted items.
