Highway 148 near Burdette will be fully closed for nearly a month as repair crews begin critical infrastructure work

Burdette, Arkansas – Drivers who regularly travel on Highway 148 near Burdette will need to make alternate plans starting Monday, July 28, as the road is scheduled to close completely for repairs.

According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), the closure will begin at 8 a.m. on July 28 and continue around the clock through 5 p.m. on Monday, August 25. The full closure is necessary to allow crews to make critical highway repairs near Ditch Number 6, located just west of Interstate 55.

During this time, Highway 148 will be closed to all through traffic between Highway 181 and Interstate 55. The stretch will remain open to local traffic only, meaning residents and local businesses will still be able to access the area.

To help drivers get around the closure, ARDOT has set up detour routes for both eastbound and westbound traffic. Eastbound drivers will be directed to take Highway 181 south to Highway 158, then east to reach Interstate 55. Westbound motorists will be detoured using Interstate 55 south to Highway 158, then west to connect with Highway 181.

Officials noted that weather conditions could affect the project timeline, though they are hopeful work will be completed as planned.

To keep the public informed and safe, digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and signage will be placed along the affected routes. These warnings are intended to guide motorists and reduce confusion during the detour period.

ARDOT encourages travelers to stay up to date with road conditions and detour information through its official websites. “Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov,” the department stated.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution when navigating detour routes or driving through nearby construction zones.
