Little Rock, Arkansas – The FBI has launched an urgent search for Benjamin Hanil Song, a suspect wanted in connection with a violent attack on a federal detention facility in Texas. The agency is now offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to his arrest and conviction.
The incident took place on July 4 at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, a facility that houses individuals in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. According to officials, the attack left a federal officer wounded by gunfire during the incident.
Federal authorities responded swiftly to the assault, and a federal arrest warrant for Song was issued on July 9 by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Fort Worth. He faces serious charges including attempted murder of a federal officer and discharging a firearm during, in relation to, and in furtherance of a crime of violence.
The FBI describes Song as “armed and dangerous” and strongly warns the public not to approach him under any circumstances. Law enforcement agencies across the country have been alerted, and the bureau is seeking the public’s help in tracking him down.
“The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for anyone who has any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Benjamin Hanil Song,” the agency stated in a release.
Investigators are hoping that members of the public may have seen or heard something that could help locate the suspect.
