Little Rock, Arkansas – Collegiate boxing is officially making its way into central Arkansas, as Arkansas Baptist College introduces a new program aimed at blending athletics, mentorship, and student development. The initiative marks a notable step for the institution as it expands its athletic and community engagement efforts in Little Rock.
College officials confirmed on Monday a new partnership with WAR Boxing Academy that will bring structured boxing training directly to the campus. The collaboration will form a new program known as WAR@ABC Boxing Academy, designed to support both competitive sports opportunities and personal development for young participants.
The facility is located at 1523 Martin Luther King Drive, positioned next to the First Security Community Union Building and directly across from the Old Main Education Building. The placement puts the program right in the heart of the campus environment, making it accessible to students and local youth involved in training activities.
Former Arkansas Baptist College President Fitz Hill explained the reasoning behind the creation of the program, pointing to both athletic growth and community impact. “First, ABC is seeking to offer boxing as a sport and become a member of USA Boxing,” Hill said. “And second, to further expand on our mission of working with youth and teens in central Arkansas who need the sport and coaching mentors to help fulfill this need by assisting juveniles in utilizing the sport of boxing in their mental wellness, social and emotional development.”
The program is expected to go beyond physical training, with a strong focus on mentorship and guidance for young people who may benefit from structured athletic discipline. College officials emphasized that boxing will be used as a tool to support emotional growth, confidence building, and healthier decision-making among participants.
In addition to launching the program, Arkansas Baptist College will host an Open House event at the new facility on Thursday at 11 a.m. The event will introduce the space to the public and highlight the training approach that will be used in the program.
During the Open House, WAR Boxing CEO and coach Anthony Tucker is expected to lead a live demonstration. Officials said the demonstration will showcase lessons currently being taught to 15 Department of Youth Services students enrolled in the META24 Workforce Entrepreneurial Bootcamp at Arkansas Baptist College.
The introduction of the boxing academy represents a new chapter for the college, combining athletics with social development in a way that aims to reach beyond traditional sports programs. For students and local youth alike, the initiative is expected to offer both structure and opportunity in a growing athletic environment.
