Jonesboro, Arkansas – The City of Jonesboro has announced a modified schedule for city services during the holiday season, with closures and adjusted operations planned for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. According to the city, offices and services will be closed on December 24 and 25, impacting public transportation and sanitation collection. Residents are advised to plan accordingly to avoid disruptions during the holiday period.
The Jonesboro Economical Transportation service will not operate on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, with normal routes resuming on Friday, December 27. This temporary suspension affects commuters and holiday travelers who rely on the service for transportation around the city. City officials encourage passengers to review schedules and make alternate arrangements if necessary.
In addition to transportation changes, the Sanitation Department will also pause trash collection on December 24 and 25. To accommodate the holiday closures, the department has released an adjusted schedule for residential and recycling pickup. On Monday, December 22, normal collection will occur, followed by regular collection and 4th Tuesday recycling on December 23. Trash will not be collected on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but routes will resume with adjustments starting Friday, December 26.
The revised sanitation schedule includes the following adjustments: on December 26, Wednesday and Thursday routes will be collected along with 4th Wednesday and 4th Thursday recycling. Saturday, December 27, will follow the Thursday route, while Monday, December 29, will follow the Friday route. Further adjustments will occur on December 30 and 31 to accommodate missed collections, with combined Monday and Tuesday routes and additional recycling pickups. Trash collection will pause again on New Year’s Day, January 1, before resuming on Friday, January 2, and Saturday, January 3, according to the adjusted schedule.
City officials emphasized that the modified schedule is designed to ensure all residents receive services despite the holiday closures. They encouraged residents to place trash and recycling out on the appropriate day to avoid missed pickups. The city also reminded the public to check the schedule closely, especially for recycling, as several collection days have been combined to make up for the holidays.
