Little Rock, Arkansas – In response to devastating flooding in parts of Texas, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has authorized the deployment of Arkansas National Guard personnel to aid in ongoing emergency efforts. The team, consisting of 22 members, departed in the early hours of July 8 and is expected to remain in Texas through July 12. Officials say the mission could be extended if necessary.
The deployment comes after a request for help from Texas through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a mutual aid agreement that allows states to support each other during crises. The Arkansas National Guard quickly assembled a team to answer the call, demonstrating a strong commitment to regional cooperation in times of need.
“Under Governor Sanders’ leadership and direction, we’re eager to assist our brothers and sisters in the Texas National Guard as they continue to respond and recover from the Texas flooding,” said Brig. Gen. Chad Bridges, Arkansas’ adjutant general. “Our hearts go out to those affected in Texas. We received an Emergency Management Assistance Compact request from Texas late yesterday, and we generated a four-helicopter departure this morning. We want to support however we can.”

The task force includes experienced pilots, crew chiefs, and six maintenance personnel. Their mission involves a variety of tasks crucial to flood response, including medical evacuation support, hoist operations, visual searches, and cargo and passenger transportation.
Specifically, one of the deployed Black Hawk crews is on standby for medevac operations, ensuring timely assistance for those who may be injured or in distress. The remaining three helicopters will assist with other rescue and logistics missions, including the transport of search and rescue teams near the Austin area.
Flooding across Texas has disrupted communities, damaged property, and created dangerous conditions that continue to threaten lives. Arkansas’ response reflects a growing need for multi-state cooperation as weather-related emergencies increase in frequency and intensity across the country.
Governor Sanders emphasized the importance of being ready to help neighboring states. “When disasters strike, we show up. Arkansas is proud to support our fellow Americans in Texas as they deal with the aftermath of severe flooding. We’re sending our best to help protect lives and bring relief to those who need it most,” she said in a separate statement not included in the original report.
The Arkansas National Guard remains prepared to adjust the duration and scope of the mission based on conditions on the ground. Leaders have emphasized that the health and safety of both the deployed personnel and the residents of Texas remain top priorities.
As rescue and recovery efforts continue, the presence of the Arkansas team will offer not only critical resources but also a morale boost to those on the front lines of the response. The deployment stands as a reminder of the vital role that the National Guard plays—not only within state borders, but across the nation during times of emergency.
