Little Rock, Arkansas – The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) announced on Friday that late fees will be waived for all vehicle registrations that expired this week, providing relief for residents affected by recent weather-related office closures. The waiver applies to any vehicle renewed by Friday, February 6, ensuring that Arkansans are not penalized for delays outside of their control.
The department said the move comes as part of an effort to help residents manage registration deadlines during a week when state offices were closed due to adverse weather. DFA officials emphasized that the decision would give drivers additional time to complete their renewals without incurring extra charges, a small but meaningful relief for many vehicle owners across the state.
To accommodate the expected surge in traffic, the DFA will be extending hours at several revenue offices throughout Arkansas next week. Locations with extended hours include West Little Rock, Conway, Sherwood, Fayetteville, Bentonville, Springdale, Searcy, Russellville, Fort Smith East, Jonesboro, Paragould, Batesville, Mountain Home, Cabot, White Hall, Pine Bluff, West Memphis, Monticello, Texarkana, Benton, Hot Springs, Albert Pike, El Dorado, and Van Buren. Officials say the expanded hours are intended to help residents complete their transactions more conveniently and avoid congestion at local offices.
“In addition to waived fees and extended hours, DFA employees will work this weekend to clear any backlog from online transactions submitted this week,” said DFA Secretary Jim Hudson. “This will increase the availability of employees to address immediate customer needs when Revenue Offices open Monday morning. We know many Arkansans will be visiting our offices, and we will be prepared to serve them. We remain committed to providing a great customer experience in every state Revenue Office.”
The DFA also reminded residents that online services remain an option for renewing vehicle registrations, allowing Arkansans to complete the process from home while reducing the need for in-person visits. However, department officials noted that staff will be on hand to address any issues with online submissions and ensure all transactions are processed promptly.
The waiver and extended hours come at a time when weather-related disruptions have caused delays in several areas, highlighting the DFA’s responsiveness and flexibility in meeting the needs of the public. By removing late fees and increasing office availability, the department aims to prevent unnecessary penalties while maintaining smooth operations for residents across Arkansas.
Residents planning to renew their registrations are encouraged to check the DFA website or contact their local revenue office for the most up-to-date information on office hours and services. With proactive measures in place, officials say the department is prepared to handle increased demand and ensure that all Arkansans have the opportunity to meet registration requirements without added stress.
This initiative underscores the DFA’s ongoing commitment to balancing regulatory responsibilities with customer service, especially in situations impacted by unforeseen events like weather-related closures. The waiver and extended office hours offer a practical solution to a problem that might otherwise inconvenience thousands of vehicle owners statewide.
