Little Rock, Arkansas – Drivers traveling through Social Hill should prepare for temporary overnight traffic changes as a portion of Interstate 30 will be closed for construction-related work. The closure is scheduled to allow contractors to install new signage along the roadway.

Weather permitting, the I-30 westbound inside lane in Social Hill and the Social Hill Rest Area on-ramp will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. until 7 a.m. The temporary closures will begin Tuesday, July 14, and continue through Saturday, July 19.

Officials said the work is part of ongoing transportation improvements and will require a short-term adjustment for motorists using the rest area access point. Drivers traveling westbound during the overnight hours are encouraged to follow the posted detour route and allow extra time for their trips.

During the closure period, westbound traffic that needs to access the Social Hill Rest Area will need to continue past the closed on-ramp and use an alternate route. Motorists should take exit 91, travel east on Highway 84, also known as Old Military Road, and then return to I-30 east before accessing the Social Hill Rest Area on-ramp.

Transportation officials are reminding drivers to remain alert while traveling through the work zone. Motorists should watch for temporary traffic signs, follow all posted directions, and use caution near construction crews and equipment.

The overnight schedule was selected to help reduce the impact on daytime traffic while allowing contractors to complete the necessary work as efficiently as possible. However, officials noted that the schedule could be affected by weather conditions.

The temporary closure is expected to end after Saturday, July 19, once the signage installation work is completed. Officials appreciate motorists’ patience and cooperation while crews complete the project and work to improve roadway safety and navigation in the Social Hill area.
