Jefferson County, Arkansas – Authorities in Jefferson County are continuing a death investigation after a 27-year-old man was found unresponsive near a roadside fire earlier this month, in an incident that has raised multiple unanswered questions for investigators.
The situation began on June 15, 2026, at approximately 9:34 p.m., when a concerned citizen called 911 to report a vehicle on fire in the area of East Altheimer Road. While deputies were en route to the scene, emergency dispatchers received a second call reporting an unresponsive individual lying on the side of the road in the same general area.
When deputies arrived, they were joined by volunteer firefighters and Emergency Ambulance Services Inc. (EASI). First responders quickly began rendering aid to the individual, who was later identified as 27-year-old Kyonte Shakur Woods.
Officials say Woods had suffered a serious injury to the head. Based on initial observations at the scene, deputies believed the wound was consistent with a gunshot injury. Emergency personnel transported Woods to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in an effort to save his life, but he later died at the hospital.
