Little Rock, Arkansas – Tennis is taking center stage in Little Rock once again as the 2026 UAMS Health Little Rock Open returns to the city with a full week of free, high-level competition, drawing players and fans from across the tennis world.
The tournament officially began on May 24 at the Rebsamen Tennis Center and will continue through May 31, offering continuous matches featuring rising international talent in both singles and doubles play. With free admission for spectators, organizers say the goal is to make professional tennis more accessible to the local community while showcasing athletes who are on the verge of breaking into the sport’s highest tier.
This year’s event is part of the ATP Challenger Tour, a competitive circuit that serves as a stepping stone between lower-level professional tournaments and the elite ATP Tour. Tournament director Chip Stearns described the level of play in straightforward terms, comparing it to a well-known minor league system in American sports.
“The challenger event pro tennis tournament, which is basically like the equivalent of AAA baseball. So, it’s the players in the world that are right at the cusp of the very top level, the people that you see on TV when you’re watching tennis. So these guys are ranked anywhere between about 130 in the world to about 350 in the world in this particular tournament.”
That range of rankings brings a mix of hungry competitors — players who have already proven themselves on the international stage but are still fighting for ranking points and opportunities to move up into major ATP events. For tennis fans, it offers a rare chance to see future stars before they become household names.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is once again hosting the event, continuing a partnership that connects professional sports with community health initiatives. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute’s bone marrow transplant program, adding a charitable mission to the week of competition.
Beyond the matches themselves, the tournament is celebrating a major milestone in 2026. This marks the 45th year that Little Rock has hosted professional tennis, and the sixth consecutive year the event has been part of the ATP Challenger Tour structure. Over the decades, it has grown from a regional competition into a respected stop on the international tennis calendar.
Fans attending this year’s event can expect more than just matches. Organizers have planned special activities throughout the week, including a one-point singles showdown scheduled for Friday, designed to add excitement and engage the crowd in a faster, more interactive format of the game.
An official opening ceremony is set for Tuesday, May 26 at 6 p.m., marking a symbolic midpoint in the tournament’s early rounds and bringing players, organizers, and fans together in celebration of the event’s long-standing presence in the city.
For Little Rock, the tournament has become more than just a sporting event. It is a yearly tradition that blends competition, community, and charity, while also putting the city on the global tennis map. With athletes battling for ranking points and fans enjoying free access to world-class matches, the 2026 edition continues to strengthen the tournament’s reputation as one of the region’s most anticipated summer events.
