Gould, Arkansas – A late Saturday night in the small community of Gould turned into a crime scene after a deadly shooting that is now under active investigation by state authorities in Arkansas.

According to officials, the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division has taken over the case following the fatal incident, which happened in the area of Gould, a quiet town in southern Arkansas.

The situation began when deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 8:20 p.m. after a 911 call reported gunfire at the corner of McKinley and Arkansas streets. The call indicated that shots had been fired in an area where a group of people had gathered, prompting an immediate emergency response.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a 20-year-old man, identified as Roberto Martinez Gonzalez, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts at the scene, authorities confirmed that Gonzalez was pronounced dead by the Lincoln County Coroner.

The loss quickly shifted the focus of the response from emergency care to a full-scale investigation. Officials said Gonzalez’s body has been sent to the state crime laboratory, where forensic experts will determine the official cause and manner of death. That process is expected to be part of the broader investigation now underway.

The Arkansas State Police confirmed that its Criminal Investigation Division is leading the case. Investigators have not released details about a possible suspect, motive, or whether any arrests have been made. Authorities also have not said what may have led up to the shooting or whether those present at the gathering are cooperating with the investigation.

As is standard in cases of this nature, detectives are working to piece together the sequence of events that unfolded in the moments before the shooting. That includes reviewing witness statements, examining physical evidence from the scene, and attempting to determine who may have been involved.

For residents of Gould, the incident has brought sudden attention to a normally quiet area. The intersection where the shooting occurred is typically known for low activity, making the presence of emergency vehicles and investigators a striking and unsettling sight for the community.

Officials emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages and remains ongoing. No additional details have been released at this time, and authorities say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

As the case develops, state investigators continue working alongside local law enforcement to understand what led to the deadly encounter and to bring clarity to a situation that, for now, remains unresolved.
