City of Little Rock opens overnight shelter on Sunday December 14 to help residents stay warm during bitterly cold temperatures

Little Rock, Arkansas – As bitterly cold temperatures are expected this weekend, the City of Little Rock is opening its temporary overnight emergency shelter on Sunday, Dec. 14. The shelter will operate from 6 p.m. Sunday until 9 a.m. Monday at the Dunbar Community Center, located at 1001 W. 16th St.

The emergency shelter provides a safe, warm, and dry place for anyone in need, especially during dangerously low temperatures. The National Weather Service is predicting a low of 18 degrees Sunday night, making the overnight shelter a critical resource for residents without adequate heating or housing.

City officials emphasized that no identification is required to access the shelter, ensuring that anyone seeking refuge can do so without barriers. Pets are also welcome, with kennels provided by Little Rock Animal Village so that families can stay together during the cold night.

Throughout the winter season, Little Rock authorities closely monitor weather conditions and will activate the shelter on additional nights as needed. This proactive approach is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable residents from extreme cold.

With winter temperatures dropping to dangerous levels, the City of Little Rock urges residents to take advantage of available resources and stay safe. The temporary shelter remains a vital lifeline for the community, offering protection and comfort during the harshest nights of the season.
