Pine Bluff police arrest man accused of kidnapping an 18 month old child and attempting to flee town with packed bags

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – A Pine Bluff man is behind bars after police say he kidnapped an infant during a disturbing incident that unfolded earlier this month.

Authorities confirmed that on August 6, officers responded to a report of an abduction involving an 18-month-old child. Investigators say the suspect, identified as Desmond Marks, forcibly took the baby from its mother at her apartment. The case quickly turned into a top priority for local law enforcement as they worked to track down both the suspect and the child.

According to police, the search led them to Marks’s mother’s residence, where he was allegedly preparing to leave town. Officers discovered two packed bags at the home, which investigators believe Marks intended to use for his escape. Fortunately, officers intercepted him before he could carry out those plans.

PBPD officials stressed that the infant was unharmed during the ordeal and was immediately reunited with the mother after Marks’s arrest. The police also emphasized the importance of the teamwork that brought the case to a safe conclusion.

“Thanks to the swift response of Pine Bluff Patrol Officers and the Pine Bluff Detective’s Office, Marks was taken into custody without incident, and the child was safely returned to the mother,” said PBPD Public Information Specialist John Worthen.

Marks now faces charges of aggravated residential burglary and kidnapping, both of which carry heavy penalties under Arkansas law. Authorities have not released details about the motive behind the abduction, but the investigation remains active.

Marks is currently being held as the case moves forward. Police said more information will be made public as court proceedings begin.
