17-year-old teenager tragically dies after rear-end collision in Jonesboro, Arkansas

Jonesboro, Arkansas – A 17-year-old teenager tragically lost his life following a two-vehicle collision in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on July 3. The crash occurred around 3:10 p.m. near the intersection of Hillcrest and Highland Drive/Highway 18, close to Newk’s Eatery, when a Ford Explorer rear-ended a commercial truck.

According to Arkansas State Police, the 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, driven by 51-year-old Cedric Hill of Jonesboro, was heading east on Highland Drive when it struck the rear end of a 1999 International Harvester truck. The truck had made a right turn off Highland Drive just moments before the collision. The impact caused severe injuries to the passenger in the Explorer, a 17-year-old male from Jonesboro. He was rushed to St. Bernards Medical Center but was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.

Cedric Hill, the driver of the Explorer, also suffered injuries in the crash. He was transported to St. Bernards’ emergency room for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that the weather conditions at the time of the accident were clear, and the roads were dry, ruling out any adverse environmental factors contributing to the crash.

The Jonesboro Police Department, along with Arkansas State Police, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. While details are still being gathered, this tragic event has left the local community in mourning. The young man’s death serves as a somber reminder of the risks on the road, and the crash remains under investigation as authorities work to piece together exactly what led to the fatal collision.
