Yell County, Arkansas – A deputy sheriff in Yell County has been fired following the appearance of a disturbing video online that showed him using explicit racist language and handling a firearm in a dangerous manner while off duty. The video quickly gained attention on social media, prompting swift action from the Yell County Sheriff’s Office.
In a statement released on Monday, the department confirmed the firing and strongly condemned the deputy’s behavior.
“This type of behavior is deplorable and not at all in accordance with the values, ethics, and mission of a commissioned law enforcement officer in the state of Arkansas, as well as that of a Yell County Sheriff’s Deputy,” the statement read.

Officials said they acted immediately once they were made aware of the video and the actions portrayed. The deputy’s name was not released to the public, but the sheriff’s office emphasized that the conduct seen in the footage—including racist slurs and careless handling of what appeared to be a loaded gun—was grounds for immediate termination.
The department also noted the presence of “reckless and dangerous actions with what appears to be a loaded firearm,” in addition to the offensive language used in the video. Although the deputy was off duty at the time, the sheriff’s office stressed that law enforcement officers are expected to uphold professional standards both on and off the job.
In response to the incident, the Yell County Sheriff’s Office is implementing new training requirements for its staff. Deputies will now be required to participate in enhanced education programs focusing on racial sensitivity, proper social media conduct, and community accountability.
The department acknowledged that the video has caused significant concern among residents and stated that they are taking steps to ensure trust is rebuilt. “We recognize that public trust is essential, and we are committed to making changes that reinforce our mission to serve and protect all members of our community without bias,” the statement added.
While the video continues to circulate online, community members and advocacy groups are voicing their support for the swift dismissal and calling for further reforms to ensure such incidents do not happen again.
