Little Rock baseball earns spot in NCAA tournament after shocking the OVC as eighth seed

Little Rock, Arkansas – Baseball fans in Little Rock have reason to celebrate. For the first time in over a decade, the Trojans are headed to the NCAA tournament. The long-awaited return comes after a remarkable and gritty performance in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) tournament, where Little Rock stunned the field to win it all.

Entering the tournament as the lowest seed, the No. 8 Trojans weren’t expected to go far. But they turned doubters into believers with a stunning run of five straight victories over four days. Their journey culminated Saturday with a nail-biting 2-1 win over Eastern Illinois in the championship game.

This marks only the second time in program history that Little Rock has reached the NCAA tournament, the last appearance coming in 2011. What makes this run even more impressive is the resilience and unity the team showed after barely qualifying for the conference tournament.

The star of the title game was Joe T. Robinson High School graduate Jack Cline, who delivered a clutch performance on the mound. Cline pitched a complete game, allowing just one run and keeping the Panthers at bay throughout the tense final innings.

“Joe T. Robinson alum Jack Cline threw a complete game in the championship, allowing just one run.”

Little Rock had come close to claiming OVC hardware last year by winning the regular season title, but fell short in the postseason. This year, they flipped the script by making history with their first-ever OVC tournament championship.

“It was a wild run for Little Rock, who snuck in to the conference tournament as the 8-seed, but proceeded to win five straight games over the last four days to win the title.”

With the trophy in hand and the automatic NCAA bid secured, the Trojans now await their regional destination, which will be revealed on Monday. The team’s fans and players are eager to see where this underdog story will head next.

“It’s the first OVC tournament title for Little Rock, who won the conference regular season title last year.”

For now, Little Rock can savor a hard-fought victory that has already cemented its place in school history. The rest of the NCAA better take note—this Trojan team doesn’t back down from a challenge.
