U.S. Highway 67 will be closed for several days to allow crews to perform critical bridge preservation work over the Little Missouri River

Arkansas – Motorists traveling through Clark and Nevada Counties should plan ahead as U.S. Highway 67 over the Little Missouri River is scheduled to close for several days to accommodate important bridge preservation work. The closure will begin at 4 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, and is expected to last until midnight Saturday, October 4, weather permitting.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) confirmed that crews will be performing asphalt work on the bridge deck, a key step in preserving the structural integrity and safety of the Little Missouri River bridge. During this period, U.S. Highway 67 will remain open only to local traffic on either side of the closure, specifically between Highway 19 and Highway 51. No vehicles will be permitted to cross the bridge itself, requiring drivers to follow designated detours to navigate around the work zone.

A signed detour will guide traffic around the closure. Southbound drivers will be directed from U.S. Highway 67 to Highway 51 north, then to Interstate 30 west, followed by Highway 19 south, before rejoining U.S. Highway 67. Meanwhile, northbound traffic will take U.S. Highway 67 to Highway 19 north, connect to Interstate 30 east, then follow Highway 51 south to return to the highway. Officials emphasized that these detours are clearly marked to ensure drivers can safely and efficiently reach their destinations.

To keep motorists informed, digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and signage will be placed along the routes leading to the closure. ARDOT encourages drivers to plan extra travel time and remain attentive to posted instructions, especially during peak commuting hours. The closure represents a crucial part of ongoing efforts to maintain safe and reliable transportation infrastructure across the state.

For additional travel updates and information, ARDOT recommends visiting IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov, which provide real-time alerts and details on construction projects, closures, and alternative routes. Drivers are also advised to follow the detour routes closely and allow for additional time when traveling in the affected area.

This temporary closure, while inconvenient for some, underscores the importance of bridge preservation work in extending the life of key transportation routes and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike. Officials ask for patience from the public and stress that completing the work efficiently is essential for long-term travel safety along U.S. Highway 67.
