Tractor trailer nearly overturns on Highway 49 near Marmaduke causing temporary road closure

Marmaduke, Arkansas – A tractor-trailer incident briefly shut down a portion of Highway 49 near County Road 842 on Monday evening, prompting local authorities to respond quickly to ensure public safety.

The vehicle reportedly came close to overturning and ended up resting on the railroad tracks, with part of its weight leaning on a major power pole, according to a Facebook post by Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder. The unusual positioning of the truck raised immediate concerns about potential damage to infrastructure and the possibility of injuries, though the situation ultimately remained under control.

“There were no injuries and there was no damage to the power pole,” Snyder confirmed, providing reassurance to residents worried about safety and potential outages.

The highway closure caused temporary traffic delays in the area, as emergency crews worked to secure the scene and clear the railroad tracks. Highway 49 remained closed for several hours, with drivers forced to find alternate routes while authorities coordinated the safe removal of the tractor-trailer.

Highway 49 was officially reopened at 8:24 p.m., Snyder said, after crews confirmed that both the roadway and the railroad tracks were cleared and safe for travel.

While the incident did not result in injuries or significant property damage, it served as a reminder of how quickly accidents involving large vehicles can disrupt traffic and pose risks to surrounding infrastructure. Residents expressed relief that no one was hurt and that the power pole remained intact, preventing what could have been a more serious situation.

Authorities have not released further details about what caused the tractor-trailer to nearly overturn. Sheriff Snyder’s office indicated that the matter is under routine review to determine if any additional safety measures are needed in the area.

Motorists in the Marmaduke region are advised to stay alert, especially when traveling near County Road 842 and other sections of Highway 49 where heavy vehicles frequently pass. While this incident ended without serious consequence, it highlights the importance of caution when navigating roads shared with large trucks and trailers.
