Little Rock, Arkansas – Following the loss of a student, the principal of Little Rock Elementary School wrote a letter to the families of the students.
Don Porter, the principal of Little Rock’s Dr. Marian G. Lacey K–8 Academy, recognized the death of an eighth-grade girl in a letter.
Porter added, “This sudden loss has had a profound impact on our entire Lacey community.” “The family, friends, and community of loved ones who knew and cherished her have our deepest condolences, prayers, and ongoing thoughts.”
The letter went on to say that Little Rock first responders handled the Wednesday issue after district and school personnel took action when the medical emergency arose.
The student’s name and the circumstances surrounding her death have not been made public by the institution. Porter explained that the school is offering bereavement counseling and that this was done to protect the student’s family.
“Many people find that death is difficult, challenging, and reveals a wide range of emotions, while others may find it difficult to process their grief response,” Porter wrote. “Please be aware that as soon as our campus staff learned about the incident, we worked to get district and building personnel to put our students’ and employees’ emotional health first. All of this was carried out in an attempt to protect the direct family’s privacy and to prevent the spread of false information, maintaining their dignity during their grieving process.
Porter added that the school is collaborating with law authorities to look into the death and that “a lot of false information is being spread about what happened.”
The principal thanked the community and offered condolences.
The letter ended by saying, “I want to thank each of you for your patience, your understanding, your continued support, and your vigilance during this difficult time.”
“I sincerely hope that Lacey had a positive influence on her socially and academically, and I have no doubt that she will have a positive and long-lasting effect on those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.”
