Students at A-State host an event to raise awareness of Islam

Jonesboro, Arkansas – In an effort to educate students about Islam, the Muslim Student Association at Arkansas State declared this week to be Islamic Awareness Week.

While distributing Middle Eastern delicacies and educating students about popular Islamic sayings and phrases, students set up shop inside the Student Union building on Tuesday, November 19.

Salma Abdel-Karim, a student, claimed that it was a means of educating students about Islamic culture.

We want to educate people about our wonderful faith, she said, “just to help the A-State community learn more about Islam and to help correct any misconceptions and stereotypes, and show Islam is a religion of peace.”

Additionally, the group conducted a guest speaker event on Monday, and on Wednesday, kids will get the opportunity to try on a hijab.
