Jefferson County, Arkansas –A recent state inspection report has affirmed that the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center is operating fully within Arkansas Jail Standards, countering circulating claims on social media about alleged problems at the facility. The report, released February 10, 2026, provides a comprehensive review of the detention center’s operations and paints a picture of a facility maintaining rigorous standards across every critical area.

The inspection, conducted on December 5, 2025, by the State’s Criminal Detention Facilities Review Committee, found the detention center in compliance across a broad spectrum of operational categories, including administration, personnel management, security, medical and mental health services, food service, detainee rights, safety, record keeping, and general facility operations.

According to the report, the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center has a rated capacity of 300 beds, though it typically operates with around 240 beds in use. The average daily population throughout 2025 was 240 inmates, with 227 present at the time of inspection. The report notes that this represents a slight decrease from 2024 and credits Jefferson County with implementing measures to better manage population levels. Inspectors acknowledged that while the facility can experience periods of overcrowding, county authorities have launched new strategies, such as transferring inmates to other jails, to reduce overall population rates.

In its narrative, the review committee highlighted the efforts made by county staff to improve both operational efficiency and inmate management. Jefferson County reportedly invested approximately $150,000 over the past year on facility updates, maintenance, and improvements to infrastructure. Inspectors observed that the kitchen and food service areas were well maintained, and the facility was fully equipped with essential safety equipment, including AEDs, emergency response supplies, required rights postings, and procedural documentation.

The inspection checklist indicated that the detention center achieved “In Compliance” ratings throughout all reviewed areas. This included written policies, personnel files, jail standards training, record systems, detainee classification processes, security procedures, medical care, food service, visitation policies, safety protocols, and facility infrastructure. The committee also specifically recognized advances in staffing strategies and recruitment efforts, signaling progress in building a stable and well-trained workforce.

Sheriff Woods, responding to the report, praised the findings and used the opportunity to address public misinformation. “The independent findings of the State’s Criminal Detention Facilities Review Committee speak for themselves,” Woods said. “The report affirms the work of detention staff and rebuts misinformation pushed by serial social-media agitators seeking to monetize outrage. We welcome oversight, invite inspections, and stand on the facts.”

Woods emphasized that maintaining compliance is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time accomplishment. “Operating a full-service detention facility is one of the most demanding responsibilities in county government,” he said. “Our team works around the clock to ensure constitutional care, safety, and professional standards. We will continue to invest in improvements and staffing to maintain that standard.”

In his statement, Woods also recognized the leadership and staff responsible for sustaining the facility’s standards. Among those acknowledged were Adult Jail Administrator Chief Deputy Bo Hudson, Assistant Adult Jail Administrator Major Jeremy Bennett, Captain Zekeyia Jackson, Lieutenant Keaira Hawkins, Lieutenant Joyce Marshall, Lieutenant Lawrence Goodloe, Lieutenant Ronald Scott, Sergeant Veronica Alexander, Sergeant Mauricia Bennett, Chief Robert Lee, Managing Nurse Erika Green, and all kitchen and support staff.

“These men and women do not seek headlines,” Woods said. “They seek professionalism, safety, and accountability. This report reflects their dedication and the seriousness with which they take their duty to the citizens of Jefferson County.”

The report comes amid heightened public scrutiny, fueled in part by social media claims questioning the facility’s operations. State officials and local authorities stress that independent inspections provide a clear, unbiased assessment of the detention center’s adherence to legal and operational standards. By documenting both the strengths and challenges of the facility, the report underscores the county’s ongoing commitment to safe, effective, and constitutional management of its adult detention population.

Beyond compliance ratings, the review highlighted the detention center’s proactive approach to continuous improvement. From infrastructure investments to staff recruitment and training, Jefferson County appears focused on maintaining a facility that meets regulatory standards while also promoting safety, security, and humane treatment for inmates. Inspectors noted that the steps taken over the past year reflect an awareness of the evolving demands of jail operations and the county’s responsibility to the public.

With the latest inspection confirming full compliance, county officials are positioning the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center as a model of accountability and operational transparency. The combination of updated facilities, trained personnel, and adherence to state standards illustrates a systematic approach to jail management, one that prioritizes both safety and professionalism while addressing population challenges through measured, practical solutions.

As Jefferson County continues to implement policies and improvements, the state’s report serves as an authoritative affirmation that the detention center is operating effectively, safely, and in accordance with Arkansas Jail Standards, dispelling recent doubts and reinforcing public confidence in the facility.
