Sherwood opens its 26th Arkansas baby box location

Sherwood, Arkansas – The opening of the city’s first baby box store was lauded by Sherwood officials.

The Sherwood Fire Department station, 400 Lantrip Road, is home to the Safe Haven baby box that was blessed on Wednesday.

John Sawyer, the fire chief of Sherwood, stated, “Once we get that first little one, the excitement of the guys and the women that we work with, taking care of that child and giving it a better chance at life.”

The purpose of the baby boxes is to provide as a resource for the safe and private surrender of infants. Boxes include silent alarms to notify first responders and are available around the clock.

According to Safe Haven authorities, this is the 26th baby box in Arkansas and the 307th nationwide. HumanServices.Arkansas.gov has more details and a list of Arkansas’ Safe Haven baby boxes.
