Registration opens for the 2025 Great Arkansas Cleanup encouraging volunteers from across the state to participate

Little Rock, Arkansas – Keep Arkansas Beautiful (KAB) has officially opened registration for the 2025 Great Arkansas Cleanup, the state’s largest fall community improvement initiative. Running from September 6 through October 31, the campaign invites volunteers from every corner of Arkansas to take part in restoring, refreshing, and revitalizing their communities.

The Great Arkansas Cleanup, now a cornerstone of statewide volunteerism, draws citizens of all ages and backgrounds to engage in meaningful environmental work. “Whether you’re restoring a trail, beautifying a schoolyard or removing litter from a local park, the Great Arkansas Cleanup offers everyone a chance to make a difference,” said McKenzie McMath Coronel, director of Keep Arkansas Beautiful. “Every year, Arkansans show their pride and commitment to protecting The Natural State by participating in this effort. KAB aspires to inspire all Arkansans to do their part and help contribute to keeping their communities, and The Natural State, clean, green and beautiful.”

The initiative builds on a remarkable track record. In the fall of 2024, nearly 4,500 volunteers contributed 26,124 hours to cleaning and beautifying Arkansas communities. Coordinators hosted 217 events across all 75 counties, resulting in the collection of 1,366 tons of litter and 8.63 tons of recyclables. Volunteers also removed 3,171 tires from public areas, cleaned 770 miles of roadway, and restored 176 miles of shoreline.

Beyond litter removal, the campaign emphasizes environmental restoration. Last year, participants planted or restored 463 trees, 223 flowers and shrubs, and 33 green spaces, positively impacting nearly two million people statewide. This dual focus on cleanup and beautification illustrates KAB’s broader mission of fostering sustainable communities that are both environmentally and socially vibrant.

Participation is open to everyone, including civic groups, local governments, businesses, and individual volunteers. Students, in particular, can earn required community service hours while contributing to a statewide effort that tangibly benefits their neighborhoods. KAB provides free supplies for volunteers, including trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and shirts while supplies last, ensuring that even first-time participants can join in safely and effectively.

Organizers emphasize that the initiative is more than just a cleanup—it is a community-building experience. Volunteers are encouraged to form partnerships, engage neighbors, and celebrate local pride through their efforts. “The Great Arkansas Cleanup is about coming together as a community and showing that every individual can make a meaningful impact,” Coronel said.

Keep Arkansas Beautiful hopes to achieve full participation across all 75 counties once again in 2025, building on the previous year’s momentum. Registration is simple, with event coordinators able to sign up and receive support materials directly from KAB. The initiative underscores the power of collective action, demonstrating that a coordinated effort, no matter the scale, can transform neighborhoods and public spaces.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the program provides educational opportunities, fostering awareness about recycling, litter prevention, and environmental stewardship. By involving students, families, and community groups, the Great Arkansas Cleanup instills a sense of responsibility and pride in Arkansas’s natural and urban landscapes.

As Arkansas prepares for another season of volunteerism, the Great Arkansas Cleanup stands as a testament to the enduring commitment of its residents to protect and enhance the state’s beauty. With registration now open, KAB invites everyone to join in this fall’s campaign, emphasizing that each contribution, big or small, makes a difference.
