North Little Rock, Arkansas – North Little Rock has officially opened its new central fire station, marking a major step in the city’s ongoing efforts to modernize emergency services and improve response times across rapidly developing neighborhoods.

City leaders, firefighters, and community members gathered this morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the newly constructed facility located at 13th and Main Street. The event highlighted both the completion of the project and the broader investment the city has made in public safety infrastructure in recent years.

The new central station is designed to serve as a key operational hub for the North Little Rock Fire Department. It will house Station One’s emergency response unit along with the department’s administrative offices, bringing both field operations and leadership under one roof for improved coordination.

Officials say the station’s location is strategic, placing emergency crews in a position to respond more quickly to calls across several important areas of the city. With North Little Rock continuing to grow, particularly in the mid-city corridor, faster response times have become a priority for local leaders.

Fire Chief Gerald Tucker emphasized how the new station will improve coverage across multiple neighborhoods and reduce travel time during emergencies. “This is a great place; we now take over a bit of Park Hill … We can get to Argenta, 40, 30, extremely fast,” said Gerald Tucker, fire chief for the North Little Rock Fire Department.

The facility itself is significantly larger and more advanced than the station it replaces. At 24,500 square feet, it includes five apparatus bays to accommodate multiple fire engines and emergency vehicles. The design allows crews to deploy quickly while also providing space for training, equipment storage, and daily operations.

Beyond its operational features, the station also includes amenities aimed at supporting firefighter wellness and community safety. A dedicated fitness area has been included to help personnel maintain physical readiness, while a 24-hour safe haven baby box offers a secure, anonymous option for individuals in crisis to safely surrender newborns.

City leaders have described the project as a long-term investment in public safety and infrastructure. Funding for the station came from a half-cent sales tax approved by North Little Rock voters in 2022, a measure intended to support major city improvements without placing the full burden on a single budget cycle.

Officials say the completion of the station reflects both voter support and careful planning aimed at meeting the city’s future needs. As North Little Rock continues to expand, leaders believe modern facilities like this one will play an essential role in ensuring emergency services keep pace with population growth and development.

The opening of the central fire station represents more than just a new building. For city officials and firefighters, it is a signal of long-term commitment to safety, faster emergency response, and stronger service for residents across all parts of North Little Rock.
