Batesville, Arkansas – The Arkansas Department of Transportation aims to encourage greater access for individuals to explore the trails at Lyon College.
Batesville College announced on Monday that it has been awarded a $100,000 grant from ArDOT aimed at enhancing the SCOTS Cross Country Trail.
The announcement states that the funds will be allocated for resurfacing and enhancing accessibility to the college’s bluff trails.
“This grant highlights the significance of building relationships between our campus and the stunning natural environment that envelops us,” stated Dr. Melissa Taverner, president of Lyon College. “Enhancing the SCOTS Cross Country Trail will benefit our students and employees while also promoting community access to outdoor recreation.”
The campus features approximately five miles of trails for hiking and biking.
Dr. David Hutchison, vice president for advancement at Lyon College, stated, “This project signifies a joint initiative aimed at improving safety and accessibility on the bluff trails.” “We appreciate ARDOT’s assistance and are eager to develop a resource that will serve the whole community for many years ahead.”
