Little Rock Zoo welcomes five bush dog pups after successful birth

Little Rock, Arkansas – The Little Rock Zoo is celebrating the arrival of five new members of its animal family after bush dog parents Luz and Paku welcomed a litter of pups.

The zoo announced the exciting news after sharing last month that the bush dog pair was expecting babies. Now, the long-awaited arrival has taken place, with Luz giving birth to five healthy pups.

Following the birth, Luz is spending time resting and bonding with her newborns. Zoo officials said the early days after birth are especially important for young animals, and the animal care team is keeping a close eye on the family during this sensitive period.

Staff members are carefully monitoring the pups and their mother to make sure they receive proper care and support. The team is observing their development while allowing Luz the time and space needed to care for her young.

Bush dogs are small, social mammals native to parts of Central and South America. They are known for their unusual appearance, strong family bonds, and cooperative behavior. Like many species cared for in zoos, successful births play an important role in supporting conservation and education efforts.

The arrival of the five pups provides an opportunity for zoo visitors to learn more about bush dogs and the importance of protecting wildlife. However, officials noted that the newest members of the zoo family will need time before they are ready to be seen by the public.

For now, the focus remains on the health and well-being of Luz, Paku, and their five pups. The animal care team will continue providing care and watching the young bush dogs as they grow and become more active.

The Little Rock Zoo said updates about the pups’ progress and any future viewing opportunities will be shared as the family continues to settle in.

The new arrivals mark another special moment for the zoo and its efforts to care for and educate visitors about unique animal species. With five healthy pups now part of the group, the bush dog family has brought excitement to both zoo staff and animal lovers across the community.
