Little Rock, Arkansas – Residents who rely on energy assistance through the 2026 Summer Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program are being reminded that the regular assistance portion of the program is scheduled to end Aug. 31.
Officials with the Central Arkansas Development Council said people who need regular LIHEAP assistance must submit their applications by that date. The deadline is approaching, making it important for eligible households that have not yet applied to complete the process as soon as possible.
The program is designed to provide help with home energy costs for eligible low-income households. Applications are being accepted across all 19 counties served by the Central Arkansas Development Council.
While regular assistance is set to close at the end of August, officials said another part of the program will remain available for a longer period. The 2026 Summer LIHEAP crisis assistance program is currently open and will continue accepting applications through Sept. 30.
The separate crisis assistance option gives eligible households additional time to seek help after the regular assistance deadline has passed. Residents who are unsure which type of assistance they may qualify for can obtain more information from the Central Arkansas Development Council before submitting an application.
Application information, including details about where residents can apply and local intake schedules, is available through the organization’s utility assistance webpage.
The Central Arkansas Development Council serves residents across 19 counties, so application procedures and intake schedules may vary by location. Residents are encouraged to check the available information for their county rather than waiting until the deadline approaches.
For households that depend on assistance to manage energy expenses, the Aug. 31 deadline is the key date for regular benefits. Officials are urging those who need regular assistance to make sure their applications are submitted on time.
Residents who need more information about LIHEAP or the application process can contact the Central Arkansas Development Council at 501-326-6229. Information is also available online at CADC.com/utility-assistance.
The council’s reminder comes as the regular summer assistance period nears its scheduled end. Although regular applications must be submitted by Aug. 31, the crisis assistance program will remain open through Sept. 30, providing eligible households with another opportunity to seek support.
Residents considering applying are encouraged to review the available program information, confirm where applications are being accepted in their county and contact the Central Arkansas Development Council if they have questions about the assistance available to them.
