Jonesboro will get its first Whataburger in new commercial area near Interstate 555

Jonesboro, Arkansas – Burger fans in northeast Arkansas have reason to celebrate as the popular Texas-based fast-food chain Whataburger is officially on its way to Jonesboro. The news was confirmed this week by Coldwell Banker Village Communities, which announced that the restaurant will be built as part of the growing Southern Hills development.

Located just off Southwest Drive and south of Interstate 555, the Southern Hills area has become a hotspot for commercial growth in recent months. Now, it will be home to the region’s very first Whataburger, a name that has been long-rumored and highly anticipated by locals.

The Southern Hills development is shaping up to be more than just a burger destination. Several other businesses are also being established in the area, including CubeSmart, Shadrachs Coffee, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and Kum & Go. Retail and service additions like Plaza Tire, Tommy’s Express Car Wash, and Southern Hills Strip Center will round out the growing commercial hub. Dining and beverage options are also expanding, with Lebowski’s Brewing Company and a new McDonald’s adding to the mix.

In addition, Southern Branch Crossing and a new Arvest Bank location will bring more convenience to area residents and travelers passing through the corridor.

For many in Jonesboro and nearby towns, the arrival of Whataburger marks the fulfillment of years of speculation and requests for more fast-food variety in the region. The chain, known for its fresh burgers, distinct orange-and-white color scheme, and Texas roots, has a loyal following and is expected to attract heavy traffic when doors open.

No official opening date has been announced yet, and construction timelines remain to be confirmed. However, development activity in the Southern Hills area suggests progress is underway, and local excitement is steadily building.

As the city of Jonesboro continues to expand, the addition of major businesses like Whataburger signals continued economic growth and consumer demand in northeast Arkansas. With a mix of food, retail, and services coming soon, the Southern Hills project is positioning itself as a key commercial destination for the region.
