Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders holds calls with local officials in affected areas following last night’s deadly tornadoes across Arkansas

Little Rock, Arkansas – Following the devastation caused by the deadly tornadoes that struck Arkansas on Friday night, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been in constant contact with local leaders to provide support and ensure a swift recovery. In the aftermath of the storm, which left destruction in its wake, the governor’s office issued a statement detailing her conversations with key officials from the affected areas.

Governor Sanders reached out to Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery, Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens, Greene County Judge Rusty McMillon, Jackson County Judge Jeff Phillips, and Randolph County Judge Ben Wicker. These county leaders have been working tirelessly to manage the immediate effects of the storm, which caused significant damage and loss of life across the state.

Sam Dubke, a spokesman for the governor, shared the following update: “Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been in close contact with local officials impacted by last night’s tornadoes and has reached out directly to the leadership of affected counties to offer support. Last night, state emergency personnel were on the ground in these communities to offer support and assist with disaster response.” This prompt response from state officials helped mitigate the initial impact of the tornadoes and provided immediate assistance to the hardest-hit areas.

To further aid in the recovery efforts, Governor Sanders declared a State of Emergency for Arkansas on Saturday morning. In addition to the declaration, she released $250,000 in state funds to assist local communities in their recovery. The funding will be crucial in helping restore essential services and begin the rebuilding process in the wake of the tornadoes’ destruction.

Governor Sanders has promised her ongoing support to the affected counties, assuring local leaders that the state will stand by them as they work through the challenges of recovery. “The Governor promised county leaders her close support throughout the recovery process and offered her condolences for the Arkansans who were killed and injured in the storm,” Dubke stated.
