Little Rock, Arkansas – In a move aimed at strengthening education and workforce readiness across the state, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced today the appointment of David Peacock to the Arkansas State Board of Education. Peacock will fill the seat previously held by Dr. Sarah Moore, with his term extending through June 30, 2032. The appointment brings a mix of military discipline, business expertise, and a passion for educational advancement to the board.
“After faithfully serving in the United States Marine Corps for over a decade, David quickly became one of our state’s top business leaders – something that gives him the expertise we need to make sure every Arkansas student graduates ready to enroll, enlist, or become employed,” Governor Sanders said. “He’s passionate about workforce readiness, literacy programs, and education freedom, and I know he’ll be an incredible asset on our State Board of Education. With leaders like David helping implement the reforms we’ve brought about over the past two-and-a-half years, I know our school system will only continue to improve. I’d also like to thank Dr. Moore for her years of support and for her help in implementing Arkansas LEARNS. Because of her hard work and dedication, the future for Arkansas’ students is brighter than ever.”
David Peacock, reflecting on the honor, expressed both humility and determination in taking on his new role. “I’m honored and humbled to be appointed by Governor Sanders to serve on the State Board of Education,” Peacock said. “Education has opened countless doors in my own life, and it’s a privilege to now help create those same opportunities for children across Arkansas. Partnering with parents and communities to prepare our students for the many paths ahead is both essential and inspiring. I look forward to working alongside the Governor, my fellow board members, communities and families across the state to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.”
Peacock’s background offers a unique blend of military service, leadership in business, and a strong commitment to community. A native of North Carolina, Peacock graduated as a Distinguished Naval Graduate from The Citadel in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, serving with dedication before earning a master’s degree in management from Webster University in 1990. After leaving the Marine Corps, Peacock’s career included leadership roles at several prominent companies, including Rubbermaid, Textron, JLG Industries, and Kalmar Industries, before joining Hytrol Conveyor Company, Inc. in 2014. He became president of Hytrol in 2015, overseeing the company’s expansion and maintaining its reputation as a global leader in advanced conveying systems.
At Hytrol, Peacock has guided the company through consistent growth, strengthening its Integration Partner Network with over 100 locations worldwide. The company provides advanced solutions for processing, manufacturing, and warehouse and distribution needs. His experience in leading a complex, global organization provides him with insight into workforce development, operational efficiency, and the importance of equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in modern industries.
Beyond his professional achievements, Peacock’s personal life underscores his commitment to service and family. He is married to Amye Peacock, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran with 22 years of service, and they currently reside in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The couple has a daughter living in Austin, Texas. Their shared experience in the military has helped shape Peacock’s philosophy on leadership, discipline, and dedication—qualities he intends to bring to the State Board of Education.
Peacock’s appointment comes at a critical time for Arkansas, as the state continues to focus on improving literacy rates, expanding workforce readiness programs, and enhancing educational freedom for families. His business acumen, combined with a lifelong dedication to service, aligns with Governor Sanders’ vision of an educational system that prepares students not just for higher education, but for meaningful careers, civic engagement, and life success.
The State Board of Education oversees public education policy in Arkansas, providing guidance and support for schools, educators, and students statewide. With Peacock joining the board, members anticipate a renewed emphasis on career preparation, community engagement, and practical initiatives that equip students with the tools to thrive academically, socially, and professionally.
Governor Sanders’ announcement also included gratitude for Dr. Sarah Moore, who played a pivotal role in implementing Arkansas LEARNS and supporting educational initiatives across the state. Moore’s contributions have been widely recognized for enhancing the quality and accessibility of education, ensuring that Arkansas students have more opportunities to succeed.
As David Peacock assumes his role on the board, educators, parents, and community members alike will be watching closely. With a background rooted in service, leadership, and a commitment to excellence, Peacock brings both experience and vision to the Arkansas State Board of Education. His focus on workforce readiness, literacy, and educational freedom reflects the priorities of a state determined to prepare its students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
With this appointment, the state of Arkansas is poised to continue its trajectory toward improved educational outcomes, supported by leaders who understand the value of preparation, opportunity, and the power of education to transform lives.
